Someone talks and sings about death openly and frankly. This song has no drama :-)
There is the essence of how unaware people die in this time.
The description of his beyond remembers very well what happens in the Realms Near the Earth.
If you want, you can sing it. Below there is its Italian text. And after it, there is its English translation. | |
È successo così all'improvviso, lo scorso sabato mattina
Il dottore me l'aveva detto: "Fumi meno! Pochi alcolici!"
E chi fumava? Ero pure astemio.
The first time that I died, I didn't even notice
I got distracted for only a second, the next moment I was already buried
The first time that I died, I thought it was a joke
I was pretty sure of this, but after three days I wasn't resurrected
It happened so suddenly, last Saturday morning
My heart ceased to beat while I playing a ticket
I fell to the ground, as leaves fall from a Sycamore tree
I didn't even have time to give my wife a final kiss
The ambulance arrived late, when there was nothing that they could do
Only call the funeral directors and organize my funeral
Then reserve the church, advise the relatives, write the eulogy
Someone took off my pyjamas and dressed me in a suit, the one from my wedding
The first time that I died, I didn't even notice
I got distracted for only a second, the next moment I was already buried
The first time that I died, I thought it was a joke
I was pretty sure of this, but after three days I wasn't resurrected
That's how I ended up in what they call "endless sleep"
It's not true that there's heaven, purgatory, or even hell
It seems more like night school, like a refresher course
Where you learn to love every moment of life
In the afternoon I take a walk with Chaplin, then I play briscola (a card game) with Pertini (beloved Italian president)
And this evening everyone's heading for the movies, there's a new Pasolini film!
Yesterday, by chance I met my grandpa, who was a partisan one time
He asked me "Did you change the world?"
Grandpa, let go, come on.. I'll buy you ice cream!
The first time that I died, I didn't even notice
But I realized after a second, that it's better in the afterlife
But if I were to be born again, what does destiny matter to me?
I would change the picture on my grave, with that stupid face
Of course, I noticed I was a bit pale.. I thought it was the bathroom light
The doctor told me "Smoke less! Not much alcohol!"
Who smoked? I was even a teetotaler
Of course, a bit more exercise, less television...
How many things I would have like to do that I didn't get the chance to,
Talking more with my son, travel the world with my wife
Leaving that job in the region and finally living on an island
Well alright, it'll be for the next time!
